Build a Miter Saw Station UPDATE

In this three part video series we build a “multi function miter saw station” that will be used not only as a miter saw station but also a space for my sanding machines, drill press and scroll saw.

I find, that without the full extension drawers, i tend to find an alternative to fetching the stuff that is on the back of the shelf. If you’re in the middle of a project, those 2 minutes it takes to remove the stuff on the front of the shef is a REALLY big pain for some reason. That is also why we make central dust collection. We could just switch the hose around, and would probably get better airflow, but a lot of times, you just don’t hook the dust collection up then.So go for drawer slides

Extension shelves – Works great in our kitchen with pull-out wire baskets instead of shelves, so can’t see why it wouldn’t be good for you. Just one thought – are you thinking of having any sides to the shelves as otherwise I could see things just falling off the edge as you pull it out!

Happy New Year and thanks for your videos and hope for many more in the new year.

Full extension runners would be great also if you have an air compressor you could use a side to store your air tools and the compressor

full extension drawer slides are a fantastic addition to your bench simply based on depth o the bench. it is, or can be, difficult to even see what is stored in the back of the shelves. specially as the bench top is statically mounted When you ad in the actor that you seem to enjoy wearing shorts in the shop, getting down on your knees to “dig” items out o the back would be likely a painful solution with small bits of wood, or maybe even a small stray screw to kneel on. well worth the $

Have to agree with the other comments. Full extension shelves are really useful. I have one under one of my beeches where I store a 6″ jointer. So much easier to pull out and lift on to the bench with the full extension drawer slides. Look forward to your next video. Rich.

I think the extensions are a great idea. I have large deep drawers below bench as I have difficulty bending to reach back of cupboards. In my case age catches up to us…:o)#

I would have liked to add full extension shelves to my mobile workstation project:lumberjocks(dot)com/projects/71824. But, as it would have more than doubled the cost of the unit I decided against it. Keep in mind that the need to be hefty units if you are going to store anything of weight on them – the standard Bunnings units won’t cut it I don’t think. If you can find a cost effective source of the units then don’t think twice about it – but if you do don’t forget to tell me! ;-)

I also relate to your comment about the price of T-track…

Well it looks there is a lot of support for full extension slides! I think its decided.

Jord, I think these kind of videos are a good way of responding to comments. When it comes to a fence for the miter saw I would prefer one that has a micro-adjust that can adjust to the tenth of a millimeter but that’s just the toolmaker in me. I’m like you in that I use a miter saw to rough cut and my table saw to finish cut. Lately I haven’t even been using my miter saw, cross-cut most things by hand as a means of practicing my hand-tool skills. Anyway, I look forward to seeing the rest of the build. I you get the chance check out my YouTube channel, subscribe if you like. Hope you had a Merry Christmas and that you have a great year. Take care.
