Shane Basford Recycled Jarrah Coffee Table

Shane Basford is another Aussie woodworker located in South Australia and he shared with me this picture of his coffee table he just finished building over facebook and I think it looks great!

If you have been watching my podcast for a while you would know that I just love anything that uses reclaimed or recycled timber and this is a great example of just that. While Shane states he is a relatively new woodworker you would have a hard time believing that by looking at this great coffee table!

Ron’s workshop is also a 3 car garage that actually gets used for cars!

Here is what Ron has to say…

This is my “workshop” it is part of a three car garage. I get to use one part of it. So I have to back my truck out to use it. Everything is on wheels so it can be moved around as needed and I can still park my truck in it at the end of the day.

Just a quick update to let you know I’m still here and that there is a new website.

Michael has crammed a lot of gear into his space. He is also planning a pretty big project for the future, a stand alone workshop.

I absolutely love the old Shop Smith that Michael has in the workshop, there is just something about old machines from this era that really fascinates me. I think it might have something to do with the amount of cast iron parts you find in them.

Here is what Michael has to say about his tools in the shop.

Here is my ryobi 10″ sliding mitre compound saw set up with a Irwin aluminium plus 80 tooth blade. This blade leaves a shine on end grain and minimal tear out.	An early shop smith dedicated as a lathe, This is an awesome old piece of machinery that doesn’t vibrate and is as quiet as a mouse. Its set up with a nova chuck which has made it more versatile.	Here is my radial arm drill press set up with a mortising attachment and my hare and forbes T318 thicknesser in the back ground.
My router table is very simple, the base is an old black & decker work mate with a melamine top and a carba tec insert with an adjustable fence. The router is a GMC 2050watt runs well and has more than enough power.	This saw I don’t know much about, I brought it off gumtree from a builder. It has the same features as a early 90′s delta contractors saw the brand is Remag, a good strong saw I don’t think I will ever need to upgrade from it.	And last but not least my schepparch basato 4 bandsaw, this thing needed quite a bit of fine tuning but now it is a beast, love this thing it cuts through anything you put in front of the blade.

Bella the chihuahua must be one pampered dog!
Dog beds have certainly started to become more and more luxurious over the last 10 years and this project is really a good representation of how far they have come since the days of having a scrap bit of carpet on the porch!

A nice looking simple chest of drawers.

This was Ron’s first attempt at making a chest of drawers and what a great outcome.

He uses the drawers in his “man cave” for some extra storage.
