Blog: Christmas Gifts

Every year I leave it till the very last minute to start making my christmas gifts and every year I say I will start earlier next year, but ever year it never happens.

So not to break with tradition today, just 11 days before christmas, I actually started making the first lot of gifts, I’m not going to say what it is that im making exactly as I know a few of the people Im making these gifts for visit my website and facebook page but what I will say  is that Steve from WoodWorking For Mere Mortals has given me a lot of ideas this year, and I will be making several of his projects for gifts this year.

Now if your someone that Im likely to be seeing on christmas day stop reading now because if you don’t your surprises will be ruined.

Have you stopped? Good.christmasblog

Unlike previous years I will be making everyone several smaller gifts this year, they will range from practical things like home wares and kitchen wares to straight out novelty things that will probably be put in a box never to be seen or used again. Even though I put effort into making these novelty gifts I think the fact that they wont be used/seen after christmas day is apart of the fun.

Because my nephew is the only person I actually trust to have actually stopped reading this (he is 3) , I think its safe to say what I will be making him.

I plan on really spoiling him this year so I will be making at least one gift a day.
Today I made him a wooden neck tie and a wooden whistle (thanks for the ideas Steve) and I also started making him a wooden train. Tomorrow I will continue with the train and hopefully start making a stand for his little guitar (he is obsessed with that damn guitar, If only he would let me tune it!),  After the stand well… Im not sure, but Ill think of something! (If you have any suggestions let me know by leaving a comment)

I am really looking forward to christmas this year, although I wont be seeing many of my good friends, as they are traveling the globe,  this will be the first year that I can remember (since living in this city) that my whole family will be actually home for christmas, not only that, but it is also the first year that we are all with good health.

What are you all building for your christmas gifts? I would love to hear about them, Just leave a comment bellow.

I’m building a “knock off” of the Ikea Norden Gate Leg table. Strangely there is little in the way of plans for this type of table so I’ll have to do it from scratch – I’ll build a “prototype” from pine to deliver on Christmas day and work out what to build the “real” one from later. Any suggestions welcome.

I have gone the simple trivet and oven rack push/pull things. Simple, fun and a great excuse to make some sawdust.
